data transfer compression

Hi,

I saw that this question was asked back in 2002 and I am wondering if
the answer has changed in 4 years.  Is there a way to get SQL Server
Express (or standard SQL Server, for that matter) to compress the data
it sends to the remote client and have the remote client decompress it
at the other end?  It appears that MySQL has this capability and it
improves response time by a factor of two or three, depending on the
data being transferred.  We have large ASCII tables that get
transferred very often and response time is a real issue.

Thanks,

- Tom
